Kids Learn the Need to Watch Saturated Fat Intake
Timely new research in the journal Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association confirms that children can be taught to modify their intake of saturated fat for better heart health in the future. In this study, researchers educated children about two significant changes of importance: consuming soft margarine instead of butter and drinking lower fat milk instead of high fat milk. Both changes helped to lower the study participant’s blood cholesterol levels.

The 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that consumers limit consumption of fats and oils high in saturated and/or trans fats (e.g., butter) and choose products low in saturated and/or trans fat (e.g., margarine spreads).
